Pirates mercifully end season

You know what they say about the opposite of love -- it's not "hate" but "indifference."

Most Pirates' fans long ago reached the indifference stage, and I'm just waiting for Bob Nutting to start complaining about attendance.

Against all odds, this has been among the worst seasons in the incredible run of sixteen losing seasons.

We have reached the point where the team is off almost everybody's radar, and there appears little chance that next year will be any better. Other teams trade front-line players and get players in return that people have heard of. The Pirates trade what few front-line players they have and get "prospects." And the fans are supposed to be patient for five more years while the minor leagues are restocked.

The rationale is always that previous management screwed up. Not the owners.

Does this ownership have no obligation pursuant to it's contract with the SEA to account for where the money goes? (I've seen the contract, and an argument can be made that it does.)

PNC Park was given to the Pirates based on the representation that the team needed a state-of-art facility with more luxury boxes to be competitive. They're competitive, all right. In fact, they apparently make money, due to revenue sharing. Except, we all thought the "competitive" aspect referred to on-field performance.

Stupid us.
